Raman spectra of molecular crystals I. Chlorine, bromine, and iodine
Abstract
Laser-excited Raman spectra of polycrystalline samples of chlorine, bromine and iodine have been observed at low temperatures. Lattice and molecular modes in Cl$_2$ and Br$_2$ are assigned according to group theory, and isotope effects are distinguished. Strong crystal field perturbations are observed for the I$_2$ stretching mode, but the lattice spectrum is too weak for definite assignment.
